Facebook reminds me of the song "Parklife" by Blur. All the people walking hand in hand, watching each other going through their facebook life.
"...maybe the world is one giant facebook, and we're all just profiles, you know?"
I read this line in the result of some application on facebook!! It makes one ponder about what ones virtual persona will be..
Sample this:
Today

Anoop added the Mob Wars application.
7:45pm.It has developed a life of its own !!!
The boquets/brickbats go to the team at Facebook which insightfully managed to serve some social needs of people.
e.g
A large majority of human beings like to think of others..its something basic. So they are happy when facebook gives then the opportunity to unveil the voyeur-exhibitionist need (Please do not pick on the extreme jargon).
Like I myself do not really "do" much on facebook. But I sure as hell am interested when I see Globus
(may
his blog rest in peace), is playing some game on facebook. It sets me thinking ki
"Saala itna vella gamer bachcha yahan pe bhi game khel raha hai!!!"
Of course he will have the ready retort ki "Budhau saala itna vella ki yeh dekh raha hai ki main game khel raha hun"
Anyway the point being that, humans like to keep track... we like to refresh those clogged memory networks by at least thinking of someone else. So this feature of notifications and news feeds keeps people on the site.
But there is also the funda that to have these notifications and news feeds alive, you need
- a set of people to keep "doing" something on facebook (which is the exhibitionist extreme)
- a set of tasks that can be "done"--now this is where the challenge lies, because....
- you need a set of people to create these tasks
One such set of people, whom i have grown to admire are the creators of "Compare People" Application on facebook.
Thudarum....(to be continued...)
